Smoking and pregnancy are a deadly combination

Smoking and pregnancy are a deadly combination---quite literally for the baby. Mothers-to-be who cannot kick the nicotine addiction during pregnancy are four times more likely to see there baby die from cot death than non-smokers. Researchers from Bristol University's Institute of child life and health in the UK found that an alarming nine out of ten cot death victims had mothers puffing on cigarettes. Smoking also affects brain chemicals in the foetus and can prevent the lungs from developing properly. On the plus side, as many as 60 percent of deaths from the sudden infant death syndrome can be prevented if pregnant mothers kick the butt.
