The concept of giving visual expression to performance
Before discussing the design of the YZF-R15, we asked the development team once again about Yamaha's approach to the overall product development.
The design ideas used on the R15 are derived from the R series of bikes from Yamaha.
"Looking back at the development process as a whole, we conducted many simulations toward the aim of developing a balance of basic ‘running, turning, stopping' performance that would enable the rider to thoroughly ‘Enjoy Riding.' Throughout this process, one consistent policy was placing priority on ‘sensory evaluation' based on the data from the test riders. The sensory reactions and input of the rider plays a much larger role in motorcycle riding than in driving an automobile. That is why our development team places such importance on sensory perceptions.
At the top level of motorcycle racing, the machines are also developed to achieve high levels of performance based on the riders' perceptions. Our MotoGP race machines combine awesome engine output with chassis management functions. The result is a machine that the top riders describe as ‘sweet' despite the fact that it is a race machine.
